Why Multani Mitti Is The Magic Ingredient?

What is multani mitti?

While we grow up, we have always seen one pack of multani mitti in our mom’s (or in some fortunate cases, even in dad’s) skincare shelves. Our parents and grandparents have been using multani mitti for years and years and we must know how important and wealthy qualities it possesses.

Multani Mitti is the mud from Multan, also known as fuller’s earth. Packed with minerals, multani mitti primarily contains varying composition of hydrous aluminium silicates or clay minerals.

Common elements found in multani mitti are montmorillonite, kaolinite, and attapulgite, including small amounts of other minerals like calcite, dolomite, and quartz. In some places, multani mitti refers to calcium bentonite, altered volcanic ash which is mostly composed of montmorillonite.

As multani mitti is a very good absorbent, this compound has a variety of uses to this date, in filters, decontamination, treatment for poisoning, litter boxes, and as a cleaning agent. In cosmetology and dermatology, multani mitti is effective as a cleanser, removing oil, dirt, and impurities from the skin and also helps in treating pimples and so many other skin problems.

Why is multani mitti our magic ingredient?

One of the unique qualities, multani mitti has its gentleness on sensitive skin and even though it is gentle, it removes those stubborn dead skin cells from top layers that hide your ‘real’ness beneath them, while also tightening your skin and increasing blood circulation around the skin.

We believe multani mitti is as great as magic and that is why, at The Clay Care, we call it our magic ingredient. And it is not just our magic ingredient, if you think about it. You have been using multani mitti from a long time and you might have been combining it with rose water, honey, lemon or turmeric, but the good thing is multani mitti can be mixed with so many other things as well that are easily accessible in our kitchen, to give your skin the hygiene and glow it needs.

The magic multani mitti does to your skin and hair

Multani mitti is the magic element to remove excess oil, dirt, sebum, sweat and impurities from the skin, which says that it is helpful in cleaning pores from inside out, which further aids in preventing acne and pimples. For those with super oily skin, multani mitti is able to absorb excess oil and draw out blackheads.

Being rich in magnesium chloride, it has cooling properties that help soothe sunburn, insect bites, rashes and skin inflammations.

If you’re facing a bad tan after being outdoors in the sun too long, multani mitti is able to gently exfoliate your skin to fade it—this property also applies to dark marks on the skin, hyperpigmentation and stubborn acne scars.

The tightening qualities of multani mitti on the face enhances the microcirculation under the skin, which is why it is an ideal remedy for dark circles. Since dark circles come into existence due to the lack of oxygen under the thin skin around the eyes, the multani mitti is able to stimulate the movement of oxygen through the capillaries in the area. The tightening caused because of the hardening of multani mitti also lifts skin, preventing fine lines.

Multani mitti is a great scalp medicine for those with oily scalps and greasy roots too. Just like a deep cleansing shampoo, the negative charge of multani mitti makes it well for whisking sebum and grime away (as they are usually positively charged).
